‘American Horror Story’ teaser trailers for Season 3

AHS3promosENIH

The fake promos for Season 3 as we are still waiting on the real ones. Get crackin’ guys.

The creative team at “American Horror Story” have released the first two teaser trailers for the upcoming Season 3 of the series, set in New Orleans. If they follow previous publicity campaigns, we can expect these to trickle out till the premiere in October on at least a weekly basis. And some good creepy clips.

The first teaser announces the city of Season 3, which of course we already know is New Orleans. But true to form, they pair it with unsettling, surreal imagery as only they can do.

Then the second teaser introduces the voodoo concept, with a human serving as a bit of a pincushion rather than a doll. I actually found this one a bit disappointing and not nearly as scary as their past efforts. But here you go:

Cult favorite Karen Black dead at 74

Karen Black, who rose to fame in “Easy Rider” but became known to horror fans for her roles in “Trilogy of Terror,” “Burnt Offerings,” and “House of 1000 Corpses,” died Wednesday due to complications from cancer. She was 74 years old.

During her career, Black appeared in over 100 films, including “Nashville” and “Five Easy Pieces,” co-starring with Jack Nicholson. She displayed a knack for quirky characters, from her tripped-out prostitute in “Easy Rider,” to the demented matriarch of the murdering clan of “House of 1000 Corpses.” Director Rob Zombie posted his condolences and a photo of him, Black and his wife Sheri Moon Zombie on the set of the film on his Twitter account.

She received an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe award for “Five Easy Pieces,” but perhaps the role Black was most known for amongst horror fans was in an anthology called “Trilogy of Terror,” where she was terrorized by a small African doll come to life. The closing shot of Black at the end, with jagged teeth, sent chills through fans, and became one of the most iconic images in horror movies.

She is survived by her fourth husband, Stephen Eckelberry, as well as a son and daughter.

SPOILER ALERT – if you haven’t seen “Trilogy of Terror,” don’t watch this ending of the film.

‘Sharknado 2’ officially set to land July 2014

sharknado

It’s a shark… it’s a tornado… it’s… “Sharknado 2!”

The folks at Syfy made it official Thursday: “Sharknado 2” premieres in July of 2014, according to a press release from the network. They also announced the winner of the naming contest out of more than 5,000 submissions on Twitter.  And the official title? “Sharknado 2: The Second One.”

You can’t accuse those Syfy execs of not being savvy to the joys of campy entertainment. The original movie lit up Twitter when it aired with it’s melodramatic dialogue, Z-list actors (Tara Reid?) and ludicrous plot (presuming you define plot pretty loosely.) Stars from every walk of A-list to unknowns commented, including such surprising viewers as Mia Farrow.

In the original, residents of Los Angeles had to fight the shark-slinging tornado, but this time around, New Yorkers will become shark sushi.

Complete casting hasn’t been confirmed, but rumors are flying whether Reid will return, or possibly just her co-star Ian Ziering. We have to say Reid needs to come back so we can have more incoherent interviews about shark sex from her. It’s all about the full craptastic experience.

This TMZ preview of the original film sums up the whole concept of “Sharknado” perfectly:

MTV hires ‘Scream’ TV series writers; Syfy greenlights ‘Legion’-based pilot

legion_poster

More horror TV is in the air today as two networks announced plans to move forward on horror film-based projects.  MTV has hired two writers for the “Scream” TV series, Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin.  No director has been selected yet, although Wes Craven has confirmed he has been approached about helming the series, but has not made any commitments yet.

Syfy looks like it wants to capitalize on the success of their lavish production “Defiance” by greenlighting a new pilot for the producers of that series. “Dominion” will be based on the 2010 film “Legion,” where mankind and angels go to battle. Can something this ambitious be done on network TV? Well, they did it with Defiance, so let’s see what they can do with this one.

Are seeing a new Golden Age of Television, at least for us horror fans?

Jay Beattie and Dan Dworkin will pen MTV’s small screen adaptation of Wes Craven’s SCREAM. Their previous works includes “Revenge”, “The Event”, “Mercy”, and “Criminal Minds”. A while back it was reported that there was interest in having the man behind it all, Wes Craven, direct the pilot. At the time the director wasn’t ready to commit, stating that, “A lot of you have asked about the Scream TV series. It’s true I’ve been approached. My response was, it would depend on the script. If they have a great script/concept, it could be fun. If not, not.” – See more at: http://www.joblo.com/horror-movies/news/scream-tv-series-finds-writing-duo#sthash.5Vxf3rlJ.dpuf

New 'I Frankenstein' posters are badass!

frankensteinposter

The new character posters for “I Frankenstein.”

If the director for the upcoming “I, Frankenstein” is as tasteful as the graphic designer, we should be in for at least a visual wonder when the film is released in January 2014. But then, whenever you have the producers of “Underworld” involved, you can pretty much presume horror eye candy is about to be unleashed.

Yes, new posters for “I, Frankenstein” were released at Comic-Con, so feast your eyes on them above.

Now, maybe I’m a little confused, but the last time I read Mary Shelley — you know, like… the book — I don’t remember any demons or gargoyles. Nor do I remember the monster being named Adam (no, that’s not a heavy-handed Biblical reference… not at all.) Of course, I don’t exactly remember him having six pack abs either, so,  jaded old snooty horror fan I am, I’m going to try to go with it. Especially with Aaron Eckhart starring, and the always delightfully-evil Bill Nighy as that demon-thingy.

Sweet.

Speaking of sweet and those six pack abs, check out this still:

(Am I the only one who sees this and gets that Color Me Badd song “I Wanna Sex You Up… ” in my head?)

That’s for you, ladies, and a few of you guys, too. We believe in equal opportunity lechery around here, regardless of sexual orientation. We’re trailblazers that way.

Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon adds a bandana for his new fashion statement

Another promo for the next season of “The Walking Dead” is making the rounds, thanks to Entertainment Weekly. Seems everyone’s favorite poncho-wearing, crossbow-shooting redneck has added a new accessory to his post-apocalypse fashion statement — a bandana.

We’re not sure why Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) might want to cover his face from zombies, unless the gas of decomposition is getting to be a bit much with all those dead stumbling around. More puzzling is why they would cover Reedus’ face, as he has become sort of the “Walking Dead” poster boy for all the ladies watching.

Sex sells, Gale Ann Hurd. To men and women. Just sayin’.

But here’s Daryl going incognito on the shooting set for the upcoming season of “The Walking Dead.”
