Syfy announced April 6 in a press release they will debut their own zombie horror show, “Z Nation,” this fall. The 13-episode series will focus on the struggle to save humanity after a zombie apocalypse.

Sounds kinda familiar, doesn’t it?

The series will be produced by The Asylum, the company that brought us the pop culture phenomenon “Sharknado,” so this show might have a little more dark humor than that other zombie show, “The Walking Dead.” Maybe you’ve heard of it?

Karl Schaefer — whose previous credits include “Eerie Indiana,” “Eureka,” and “The Dead Zone” — will serve as executive producer and showrunner.

“‘Z Nation’ will take viewers where no zombie has gone before,” said Schaefer in the press release. He also said the show adds “a sense of hope to the horror of the apocalypse — our everyday heroes take the fight to the zombies. It’ll be an epic journey unlike anything you’ve seen before.”

It isn’t clear whether the show will play up any humor, but Syfy’s Chris Regina, Senior Vice President, Programming, said it wouldn’t be as bleak as other zombie series, without specifically naming the show he was obviously referring to.

“‘Z Nation’ is a unique new journey into the long established zombie genre. Instead of existential despair, the series offers hope that somehow, some way, humanity will not only survive, but triumph. In producing their first ever weekly series, our long-time partners The Asylum have created a different way of telling an iconic story.”

“Z Nation” will pick up the story three years after the apocalypse, where survivors have found one person who seems immune to the zombie virus, and holds the key to a cure in his blood. But it won’t be that simple, because apparently our potential world-saving hero has a secret he’s keeping from those trying to transport and protect him.

Tonight on TV: ‘The Walking Dead’ (spoilers) https://thequeenofscream.com/tonight-on-tv-the-walking-dead-spoilers/ https://thequeenofscream.com/tonight-on-tv-the-walking-dead-spoilers/#respond Sun, 03 Nov 2013 05:44:09 +0000 http://thequeenofscream.com/?p=2970

Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride) dropped a major bombshell last week at the end of “The Walking Dead,” when she quietly confessed to Rick (Andrew Lincoln) that she had killed the two members of the group and burned the bodies. You know… the motherly one. Who saw that coming?

You got some ‘splainin’ to do, Carol.

The obvious guess is it was her way of trying to contain the virus. Which obviously failed, giving us all new context to her behavior earlier in the episode when she told Tyreese (Chad Coleman) how sorry she was, how she’d check in on his sister for him and vented her frustration by kicking over water containers.

But how on earth does Rick handle this now? Now Carol is going off cockeyed and just doing whatever she wants without input from anyone else. How can he look Tyreese on the face knowing what he knows?

And speaking of Tyreese, he and the rest of his band of merry robbers on a mission to get antibiotics before people start doing ran into a little snag. Actually, more than a little… try a “superherd” of walkers stranding them by the roadside. And by superherd, I mean hundreds for as far as the eye could see down the road.

Will they get the medicine in time? And how do you think Rick will handle this info he just got dumped on him? Will he put his “symbolic hat” back on? (What the hell was Marilyn Manson on last week on The Talking Dead?”)

Check out the preview video, gallery photos, and the new episode tonight on AMC.

Tonight on TV: ‘The Walking Dead’ spoilers https://thequeenofscream.com/tonight-on-tv-the-walking-dead/ https://thequeenofscream.com/tonight-on-tv-the-walking-dead/#respond Sun, 20 Oct 2013 16:43:10 +0000 http://thequeenofscream.com/?p=2762

Prepare for all hell to break loose tonight on AMC’s “The Walking Dead” after a relatively peaceful premiere… except that whole zombies dropping from the sky thing. And when we left off at the end, we had one poor prison gang resident who seems to have died of some kind of mystery illness, and turned. While everyone else was still sleeping.

That just ain’t good.

A few mild spoilers:

Last week on “The Talking Dead,” producers already revealed that the proverbial poop is about to hit the fan, and that the premiere was a set up of how peaceful things have been, so they can tear that peace to shreds. They also dropped a bomb by revealing that there is an illness and an airborne one at that, so a deadly illness sweeping through, killing people and causing them to turn as all the dead do without a bullet to the brain… well, that’s a problem that could make the Governor look tame.

They also dished a bit on romance rumors for Daryl (Norman Reedus) and the rather uncomfortably long hug with Beth (Emily Kinney.) Is it misdirection for a hook up with Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride), or are Beth  and Daryl maybe the next love match?

I suppose that’s all pretty frivolous thinking when you have a walker running loose in the prison compound turning god-knows-how-many-people before he’s discovered, and from the looks of  the video clip below, they don’t seem to discover him right away, unless this is after that crisis.

What do you think will happen tonight? How many will die before they discover this guy? Will Daryl get lucky? And where is that pesky Governor?

Check out the video and photos from this episode of “The Walking Dead” in the gallery below.

Fans of the AMC phenomenon “The Walking Dead” finally get their fix tonight as Season 4 kicks off. Now, mild spoilers may ensue below, but first of all, let’s talk about that photo above. After some dynamic, uh… tension between Daryl (Norman Reedus) and Carol (Melissa Suzanne McBride) in previous seasons, is this a friendly gesture, or a wee bit more?

Now, we don’t know where or when, but we do know you haven’t seen the last of the Governor and we’re getting some new characters this season. Rumor also has it one episode will follow the comic to the “T,” but no word on which one. But hey, you were planning on watching anyway, right?

Here’s an Episode 1 teaser trailer:

Wanna see some photos of tonight’s episode? Check out the gallery below and also check out the bonus video on what makes a badass, featuring Norman Reedus. If you want to a quick drinking game, I suggest you drink every time he says “badass.”

Tune in to AMC tonight for the premiere of “The Walking Dead” and don’t forget to watch “The Talking Dead” afterwards. And comment below on what you think will happen this season. Who will die? Will Daryl and Carol finally hook up? How will the Governor come back to wreak more havoc?

Looks a bit chaotic in some of the prison scenes here. Get the inside scoop from cast and producers on what to expect next season.

Other show news this week was that one episode of the season will follow a comic book in the series pretty much verbatim, but of course, they aren’t saying which one. Nice way to get tv viewers to pick up the comics, you marketing masters.

Norman Reedus, aka Daryl Dixon, is one busy man.

In addition to stealing the show on “The Walking Dead,” he’s recently been featured on one of this week’s three special EW covers along with his co-stars Andrew Lincoln (Rick) and Chandler Riggs (Carl). Then he took over “The Walking Dead’s” Instagram account, using a glorified cell phone camera as an excuse to run amok: licking his co-star’s face, and photobombing the zombies while flipping the bird.

He’s oh-so-bad that one. Which shouldn’t be too surprising from someone who, as he put it himself, “has made a career out of giving people dirty looks.”

He may be oh-so-bad but looks oh-so-good on the cover of EW in full Daryl Dixon character. And yes, he has the poncho, which has inspired numerous Twitter accounts in itself.

So here you go fans, with two of the cover shots and Norman behaving badly on Instagram.

Walking Dead's Daryl Dixon adds a bandana for his new fashion statement https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-deads-daryl-dixon-adds-a-bandana-for-his-new-fashion-statement/ https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-deads-daryl-dixon-adds-a-bandana-for-his-new-fashion-statement/#respond Sat, 13 Jul 2013 09:04:22 +0000 http://everynightishalloween.com/?p=1056 Another promo for the next season of “The Walking Dead” is making the rounds, thanks to Entertainment Weekly. Seems everyone’s favorite poncho-wearing, crossbow-shooting redneck has added a new accessory to his post-apocalypse fashion statement — a bandana.

We’re not sure why Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) might want to cover his face from zombies, unless the gas of decomposition is getting to be a bit much with all those dead stumbling around. More puzzling is why they would cover Reedus’ face, as he has become sort of the “Walking Dead” poster boy for all the ladies watching.

Sex sells, Gale Ann Hurd. To men and women. Just sayin’.

But here’s Daryl going incognito on the shooting set for the upcoming season of “The Walking Dead.”

Michael Rooker is one badass mother@$&#! https://thequeenofscream.com/michael-rooker-is-one-badass-mother/ https://thequeenofscream.com/michael-rooker-is-one-badass-mother/#respond Tue, 02 Jul 2013 11:08:27 +0000 http://everynightishalloween.com/?p=1004

Huffington Post posted a great, long interview with Michael Rooker, aka Merle Dixon on “The Walking Dead,” or formerly of TWD as he became a zombie and was killed by his brother last season. But you know we still love him, as we “genre” fans embrace you for life once you’ve made your mark with us.

I had forgotten about his role in “Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer,” which he reveals was his first role, and talks about his method acting technique for the role in this clip. He was seriously disturbing in that movie if you haven’t seen it.

He also talks about his love of horror and some of his other roles in horror, including movies like “The Dark Half” and “Slither.” He doesn’t even mention “Mississippi Burning,” where he had a rather notorious run-in with Gene Hackman.

So anyway, check out this great interview and watch Rooker mess with the Huff Post guy. Priceless. Can’t we bring him back to “The Walking Dead?” Please?

'Walking Dead' spoilers: One wedding and a funeral https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-dead-spoilers-one-wedding-and-a-funeral/ https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-dead-spoilers-one-wedding-and-a-funeral/#respond Mon, 25 Mar 2013 00:06:18 +0000 http://everynightishalloween.com/?p=968

As reported here last week, now everyone is picking up the spoiler about Merle biting the dust, and it looks like it will be this Sunday’s episode, “This Sorrowful Life,” rather than the season finale. The only thing that remains somewhat of a mystery is the how and what will happen to him after he turns, but you don’t really expect me not to have spoilers on that as well, do you?

If you don’t want to know, don’t read on.

It looks like Merle will go out a hero, or trying to be a hero, anyway. With the looming deal to hand over Michonne to The Governor to try to avoid a war between Woodbury and the prison, Merle is off to deliver her, but ends up cutting her loose, with the idea of taking the bull by the horns, so to speak, and taking out The Gov.

As bad ass as Merle is, he will fail.

And we all know what happens to those who die, if a bullet isn’t put through their brain. So yes, Merle will turn and some one will take him out. Given the history of the show, and bearing in mind what would make the most gut-wrenching death scene, it doesn’t take a genius to figure out that his brother, Daryl, is likely the one who has to put him down. Andrea killed her sister, and Carl shot his own mother in the head, so Daryl won’t be spared. But, unlike those two who rather calmly did what had to be done, tough guy Daryl won’t take it so well, from what the spoilers are saying.

That’s a nice way of telling you you better have those Kleenex handy, guys. ‘Cause people are divided on most characters on this show, but everyone freakin’ loves Daryl. Everyone.

Speaking of love, it doesn’t exactly take a genius to figure out the wedding part of the article must be Glenn and Maggie, who make things official in this episode, at least as far as an engagement. Now, this will be a test of the writers for the show, not to make this a cheap, melodramatic moment, but a touch of hope in such a bleak landscape. Let’s hope they pull it off.

'Walking Dead' finale spoilers: A major death confirmed https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-dead-finale-spoilers-a-major-death-confirmed/ https://thequeenofscream.com/walking-dead-finale-spoilers-a-major-death-confirmed/#comments Sun, 17 Mar 2013 23:03:25 +0000 http://everynightishalloween.com/?p=962

If it doesn’t happen tonight, we have positive confirmation on one major character who will die this season, or at least be turned to a walker.  It’s confirmed by a photo of the character as a zombie, so there is no disputing it — all that remains to be determined is if he is put down and if so, by whom.

You have been warned not to read on if you hate spoilers.

Photos of a zombified Merle have popped up online, so his character is definitely biting the dust. Many fans are speculating whether Daryl will be the one to put him down, but it seems a no-brainer for writers to milk the emotional torment of Daryl having to kill his own brother. And remember, these bunch of writers had no problem having poor little Carl dispatch his own mother with a bullet to the brain.

Of course Daryl will have to be the one to kill him.  And you can bet it will make fans only love him more… if that’s possible. As someone posted on Facebook:

We like him. We really, really like him. And as despicable as Merle is, seeing Daryl suffer is a real drag.
