One of my greatest guilty pleasures is Ghost Adventures, which I call the “best unintentional comedy on TV,” and I even wrote about the paranormal drama queens of Friday night some time ago. But I have to confess I’ve become totally addicted to the show, mostly for the wrong reasons, as I had been watching new episodes on my TV and DVR where they just get over the top silly. But Netflix has all of Season 2, so I went retro to see if the boys had always been so ridiculous in their ghost and demon hunting.
I have to say, after 25 episodes of the sophomore season I’m seeing Zak, Aaron and Nick in a different light. Yes, they are still drama queens (and it’s a TV show, so they have to be) but my cynical side has diminished a bit, and watching these episodes, I can’t see at least some of the humor is intentional.
I can also see there has been a serious side, too, when the adventurers did an episode that featured one of their gadget designers whose daughter had died in a car accident. Call me naïve, but at the very least I am convinced that emotional episode was genuine. I was also pretty impressed with the Tor House episode, and the ghost light in the Chicago graveyard.
And yes, there are some hilarious moments in Season 2, but intentionally funny. Zak’s trying to take the hatchet from the curator at the Lizzie Borden house was hilarious, as well as that creepy dude in the top hat with a cow in the Ashmore Estates episode. What is that dude on, anyway?
Now that’s some fucking entertainment, y’all.
And that’s the bottom line in Ghost Adventures. Yes, it can be cheesy. Yes, much of the “evidence” is feelings or things not captured on camera. Yes, Zak can be sort of be a douchey drama queen at times and really needs to lose that One Direction haircut. But the bottom line is they always entertain us. (I mean how can you not love Aaron and his reactions when they send that poor dude into the worst places?)
I love those guys… so sue me. Just take it all with a healthy grain of salt and enjoy the ride.
Other than the guys being some serious drama queens I have one major issue watching them, the ghost/spirit/people are dead, NOT DEAF!!! They talk SO LOUD ALL THE TIME AND THEN SAY “DID YOU HEAR THAT?!?!”….well no guys all I heard was you freaking out, talking as loud as you can and yelling. Always saying something/someone is trying to possess them or use their energy then follow up with “I never feel like this” and saying how one of them, usually Nick, is not someone who gets excited or overwhelmed…really? Every show, it’s the same deal. I do like when they’re joking around, they can be funny and I agree with you on poor Aaron, lol! I’ve been told, and I 100% agree, that I would be the first to die in a horror movie because I’m the one that goes straight to something that is ‘different’ or scary when everyone else is heading in the opposite direction lol. For many years I said it would be cool to live in a place that is haunted…be careful what you wish for. It happened. It was very interesting to be perfectly serious, I was totally into it when it all started happening. There were times it was down right creepy and what I would describe as scary, but me being me, my curiosity would win over any fear or common sense lol. Near the time I ended up moving things got a little more serious and I was glad I was moving because it was getting beyond interesting and creepy…too close and too aggressive is the best I can describe it. Anyway, Ghost Adventures is one of the shows I will watch, and I complain to the guys out loud about talking to loud, lol.
I apologize, my mind works faster than my typing. I should explain why I went from talking about Ghost Adventures then to my experience. My experiences happened during the night and day, at no particular times. Also I never felt drained from ‘it’/’them’…whoever, whatever…using my energy like they constantly mention on Ghost Adventures. I also would be very quiet when I heard or saw something and I went to investigate so I could hear anything that may make a sound. To add to all of this, I am not easily fooled or scared, if I can’t be 100% sure it could have been something other than a ghost or something, then I just brush it off, I don’t automatically think since I can’t explain it that it was a haunting thing. So for me to say that place was actually haunted, you can bet your life it was, there was no denying the things I saw and heard.
Yeah, I’m always thinking “No, I didn’t hear that because you are yelling. Shuttup will ya?” I think the pressure to come up with drama affects anyone trying to do a show like this. Even Ghost Hunters has been going that way. It’s a shame, but they are definitely entertaining.
