Okay, I know what you’re thinking — not another one of those “lost footage,” secretly filmed exorcism movies. Yeah, me too.

While the genre may be oversaturated, I have to say that “The Devil Inside” definitely is one of the better examples of this type of movie. The film has some genuinely creepy moments, and does have a real feel of authenticity about it which is sometimes lacking in some of these supposedly real films. Plus the performances of people possessed are very impressive. Suzan Crowley, who plays the main character’s mother, puts in an absolutely chilling performance, that sort of freaked me out.

And at the risk of stating the obvious, being freaked out is a good thing for a horror fan.

Anyway, this is definitely a worthwhile film, and it’s unfortunate that there have been so many bad ones out there, because otherwise I think this would have received much more critical acclaim if it wasn’t taking an approach that of been done too many times.

I’m not sure how they did it, but the movements and the distortion of bodies of those possessed was pretty incredible and very realistic in this movie. My biggest criticism is the abrupt ending, leaving it feeling very unfinished. Don’t get me wrong, I get that it’s supposed to be found footage, which would mean an abrupt end, but it just didn’t feel right and felt like there should be more to the story.

While the ending left me unsatisfied, make no mistake — this movie and the imagery in it were very disturbing. That alone makes it worthwhile to add to your library if you’re a hard-core horror fan.
