sharknado

It’s a shark… it’s a tornado… it’s… “Sharknado 2!”

The folks at Syfy made it official Thursday: “Sharknado 2” premieres in July of 2014, according to a press release from the network. They also announced the winner of the naming contest out of more than 5,000 submissions on Twitter.  And the official title? “Sharknado 2: The Second One.”

You can’t accuse those Syfy execs of not being savvy to the joys of campy entertainment. The original movie lit up Twitter when it aired with it’s melodramatic dialogue, Z-list actors (Tara Reid?) and ludicrous plot (presuming you define plot pretty loosely.) Stars from every walk of A-list to unknowns commented, including such surprising viewers as Mia Farrow.

In the original, residents of Los Angeles had to fight the shark-slinging tornado, but this time around, New Yorkers will become shark sushi.

Complete casting hasn’t been confirmed, but rumors are flying whether Reid will return, or possibly just her co-star Ian Ziering. We have to say Reid needs to come back so we can have more incoherent interviews about shark sex from her. It’s all about the full craptastic experience.

This TMZ preview of the original film sums up the whole concept of “Sharknado” perfectly:
